Pier 60 Sugar Sand Festival Announces “Sugar Sand Tales” Theme

February 18, 2015

The City of Clearwater, Fla., announces the return of the famed Pier 60 Sugar Sand Festival, a 10-day celebration of Clearwater’s award-winning beaches. This year, it has been designated an official Clearwater Centennial event as the city celebrates its 100th birthday and the festival will once again provide ample reason to extend spring vacation season for the whole family. The event will take place on Clearwater Beach from April 17–26, 2015 and is sponsored by Sunsets at Pier 60, Clearwater’s daily celebration of picture perfect sunsets for the past 20 years.

Located just south of Pier 60 on Clearwater Beach, the festival will feature 1,000 tons of Clearwater Beach’s world famous sugar white sands creatively carved into enchanting story-land scenes in the Sugar Sand Walk Exhibit. Team Sandtastic will once again craft the artistic walk-through display in a 21,000-square-foot tent. In addition, the Pier 60 Sugar Sand Festival will offer a variety of featured activities on Clearwater Beach for all 10 sand-filled days including the CCM Graphics Master Sand Sculpting Competition, Sand Sculpting Classes, Clearwater Gas System Speed Sand Demonstrations, Bright House Blast Fireworks, and the very popular Camp Hyatt Sand Box children’s play area. The Festival will also feature the Centennial Fireworks and the Sugar Sand Finale fireworks. New this year is Frenchy's Concerts on the Beach, featuring six nights of free music on the big stage. Guests will be able to enjoy the Baystar Restaurants Sugar Sand VIP Dining Experience again this year, with limited availability.

As the sun sets on a day spent at the Pier 60 Sugar Sand Festival, guests can continue the fun at Pier 60. Nightly sunset festivals celebrate Clearwater's world famous sunsets, that spectacular moment when the orange sun melts into the tranquil waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Featured storyland films will air in Pier 60 Park in accordance with this year’s theme.

Cost of admission will be $10 for adults, $5 for students 6 to 17 years old, and $7 for seniors (55 and up), military personnel, police, firefighters and teachers. Children 5 and under are free when accompanied by a paying adult. Adult and senior tickets will include entrance into the Sugar Sand Walk Exhibit and a commemorative 5-by-7 inch souvenir photo presented by Visit St. Petersburg/Clearwater.
