The City of Clearwater, Fla., announces the return of the famed Pier 60 Sugar Sand Festival, a 10-day celebration of Clearwater’s award-winning beaches. An addition to the annual Fun ‘n Sun Festival of music concerts and other family-friendly entertainment, this sand sculpting exhibit and interactive experience will provide ample reason to extend spring vacation season for the whole family. The event will take place on Clearwater Beach from April 4–13, 2014 and is sponsored by Sunsets at Pier 60, Clearwater’s daily celebration of picture perfect sunsets.
Located just south of Pier 60 on Clearwater Beach, the festival will feature 1,000 tons of Clearwater Beach’s world famous sugar white sands creatively carved into iconic movie scenes in the Sugar Sand Walk Exhibit. Team Sandastic will once again craft the artistic walk-through display in a 15,000-square-foot tent. In addition, the Pier 60 Sugar Sand Festival will offer a variety of free activities on Clearwater Beach for all 10 sand-filled days including the Master Sand Sculpting Competition, Sand Sculpting Clinics, Clearwater Gas System Speed Sand Demonstrations, CCM Photobooks Paparazzi Photo Opp, Bright House Blast Fireworks, the Camp Hyatt Sand Box children’s play area, and a Beach Egg Hunt on Sunday, April 13, at 2 p.m. New to the festival this year will be the Frenchy’s Sand Bar, where beer and wine will be available for sale daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Also new to the festival will be the Baystar Restaurants Sugar Sand VIP Dining Experience with limited availability.
As the sun sets on a day spent at the Pier 60 Sugar Sand Festival, guests can continue the fun at Pier 60 or view featured iconic films like Jaws, Back to the Future and Harry Potter in accordance with this year’s theme. Nightly sunset festivals celebrate Clearwater's world famous sunsets, that spectacular moment when the orange sun melts into the tranquil waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
Cost of admission will be $8 for adults, $4 for students 6 to 17 years old, and $5 for seniors (55 and up), military, police and firefighters. Children 5 and under are free when accompanied by a paying adult.
