Clearwater has always been an incredible location for dolphin watching and is even the place to meet America’s most famous dolphin and star of Dolphin Tale, Winter. In the past year, however, more than 115 new dolphins have created quite a buzz in Clearwater. Clearwater’s Dolphins is a unique artistic initiative featuring a growing pod of 6-foot tall fiberglass dolphins, each individually designed by a local artist and sponsored by an area business.
The Clearwater Regional Chamber of Commerce along with the Clearwater Marine Aquarium and the City of Clearwater created Clearwater’s Dolphins in celebration of the RNC which was held in Tampa in August, 2012. The response was so overwhelming and the dolphins so well received that the project has been extended with more dolphins joining the pod. Clearwater’s Dolphins were all together on display at Pier 60 Park from August 6 to September 4, 2012 and have since been returned to their individual homes with their sponsors around the city. The majority of these beautiful dolphins are available for public viewing and guests are invited to follow the dolphin trail. A map of where all these incredible dolphins can be found here. Following the dolphin trail is a must do for any visit to Clearwater!
The first Dolphin Statue to leave the State of Florida was delivered and unveiled by Mayor George N. Cretekos and Congressman David Jolly on January 27, 2015. The Dolphin Trail will now take slightly longer to complete, since a visit to Washington D.C. will be necessary! More information about this Dolphin's arrival in D.C. can be found here.
Paint Your Own 7-inch tall mini dolphins have now joined the pod and are available for purchase. These custom made replicas are available at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium and Winter’s Dolphin Tale Adventure or online by contacting firstname.lastname@example.org. They are also available for purchase at the Barefoot Beach House, One Stoppe Shoppe and at the Sheraton Sand Key. Mini dolphin decorating classes are on offer at the retail locations and at artists’ studios. Dolphin decorators are encouraged to share a photo of their creation on the Clearwater's Dolphins Facebook page.
