Sets from Dolphin Tale Can be Seen in Clearwater, Fla
September 12, 2011
With the release of Warner Bros. and Alcon Entertainment’s next big blockbuster, Dolphin Tale, just days away, Clearwater, Fla reminds visitors that they too can be part of the big screen action by visiting the intact sets from the film. Dolphin Tale was shot on location in Clearwater and guests can now not only see the places from the movie but interact with the films’ star, Winter.
No location is as notable as the Clearwater Marine Aquarium (CMA), which is not only one of the country’s preeminent marine rehabilitation facilities, but home to Winter, the tailless dolphin whose story of survival is the inspiration behind the movie. Guests at the CMA will see imagery from the movie from the moment they arrive and movie set pieces are clearly marked. The House Boat belonging to Harry Connick Jr.’s character still floats in the Intracoastal waterway and the Aquarium Director’s office, both in the movie and in real life, functions just as it does in the film. Most of all, the real Winter is at home in the Aquarium where fans can come and see her.
In addition to the CMA, scenes from the movie can be recognized all over the city. Beachgoers on beautiful Honeymoon Island will remember the sugar white sand and turquoise Gulf Waters; while a drive past Clearwater High School will almost certainly produce a sense of déjà vu. In downtown Clearwater, the Harborview Center is currently undergoing a renovation to serve as a new extension of the CMA, and will also house a number of set pieces for visitors to enjoy.
Dolphin Tale is based on Winter’s true story of survival, learning to survive and thrive after the loss of her tail. The 3D blockbuster stars Morgan Freeman, Ashley Judd and Harry Connick Jr. alongside the real Winter.
